Lake Natron Adventure

Day 1: Arusha to Lake Natron

Make your way to the airport in Dar es Salaam for your flight to Kilimanjaro Airport.

On arrival, you will be picked up and depart for Lake Natron, a 5 hour drive with a picnic lunch.  This scenic drive goes off the beaten path and is a great detour from the main safari circuit. East Africa has 1.5-2.5 million Lesser Flamingos, representing three-quarters of the world population and most of them are hatched at Lake Natron.

This evening, enjoy sundowners overlooking the Lake Natron

Day 2: Lake Natron

After breakfast, you can participate in a morning & afternoon activity. Lunch will be had at the camp

Activities available at the camp for you to select:

Flamingo Walks: Guests can take early morning or sunset walks to the lake flats.
Bird Watching: Guests can take evening or morning walks to the lake, pond and marsh for bird-watching.
Hominid Footprints: Walk to hominid footprints within their concession area.
The Rift Valley Day Hike: Adventurous hike (6 hours) at dawn until noon with picnic breakfast.
Ngare Sero Water Falls: half or full day walks can be arranged at the lodge up Ngare Sero gorge to several waterfalls. The scenery is a unique blend of arid volcanic rocks and lush tropical palms. Wear shoes that can get wet. Take 1 liter of water and snacks.
Ngare Sero SOURCE Adventure Hike: A full day hiking deep into the Ngare Sero gorge to see the source of the river. A picnic lunch is taken and at least 3liters of water are required. A great alternative to climbing Lengai.
Sundowner With a View: A 10-minute drive to the top of nearby hill. Enjoy sundowners overlooking the Lake Natron, the majestic Lengai and Gelai mountains and watch the sun go down behind the escarpment of the Great Rift Valley

Dinner and overnight back at your camp.

Day 3: Lake Natron to Arusha

After breakfast, enjoy a morning activity at Lake Natron.

Depart for Arusha with an optional stop over at the Cultural Heritage center for some souvenir shopping and to view the art gallery. On a clear day you will see Mt. Meru standing tall over the city of Arusha.

Arrive at the Arusha Coffee Lodge where you will enjoy a meal in the lush green gardens. After lunch you may have some time to visit Shanga, an uplifting local community social enterprise which employs people with disabilities to create unique handmade gifts.

Transfer to the Kilimanjaro Airport for your flight back to Dar es Salaam
